NEW BUSH/GOP TV ADS FAIL TO TELL THE REST OF THE STORY

Miami Lakes - In response to the latest round of misleading television ads by the Jeb Bush campaign/Florida GOP, the following "Ad Watch" was prepared to set the record straight.

Once again, Jeb Bush and the Republican Party of Florida have failed to tell the whole story. Voters didn't believe the misleading message in the last round of ads, and they won't believe these either - no matter how much money Bush spends to tell a different story.

The lowest tax rate in a decade... During a booming economy, Bush cut taxes for the wealthy, despite the recommendation of economists who argued that he should maintain a reserve fund in order in the case of an economic downturn.
(Orlando Sentinel, 3/1/99)

In June, 2001, Bush signed $150 million in tax breaks for the wealthy despite the state facing a serious budget shortfall. As a result, he cut numerous programs - including education!

... and a passionate commitment to education. Under Jeb Bush Education Funding increased by 3 Billion Dollars Despite his claims, an independent analysis by the St. Petersburg Times paints a very different picture of Governor Bush's "commitment" to education.

According to the Times report, "Using all the financial assumptions most favorable to the governor, then accounting for inflation and 168,400 new students, the amount of money spent on each student has risen less than one-quarter of 1 percent since Bush took office in 1999. After accounting for inflation, that amounts to a $ 10.21 per student increase over three years."

"Bush proposes a 6.1 percent spending increase for 2002-03. But after accounting for new students and inflation, the increase shrinks to less than two-tenths of 1 percent."

Governor Jeb Bush
Listening, Leading Making a Difference for Florida.

The Bush Claim The Rest of the Story...
So how is Jeb Bush doing on crime? Ask the criminals. Early release is gone. Felons now serve at least 85% of their sentences. The requirement that felons to serve 85% of their time took effect October 1, 1995, well before Bush became Governor
Gun Crime down 24%...
10-20-Life worked
Despite passing the 10-20-Life law, Bush has failed to lower the rate of firearm crime in Florida. In fact, Firearm crime has increased in both incidence and rate (incidence per 100,000 individuals) for the first time since 1997.

(Florida Department of Law Enforcement. "Crime in Florida," 2002; Florida Department of Law Enforcement, "Florida Uniform Crime Report, 1996-2002)

Since 1999, murders with firearms have increased more than 9%. The Bush Administration has presided over the first increase in the firearm murder rate in over a decade.

(Florida Department of Law Enforcement, "Statewide Murder by Firearm 1971 - 2001")

Assaults on officers are at their highest rate since 1999.

(Florida Statistical Analysis Center: "FDLE, Crime in Florida, Florida Uniform Crime Report, 1991-2001," Tallahassee, FL)

Drug use down 31%...
Funding for treatment & prevention up 58%...
Florida's arrest rates show that nearly 200 more juveniles were arrested in 2001 for drug use than in 2000. More than 300 more adults were arrested for drug use in 2001 than in 2000.
(Florida Department of Law Enforcement Annual Crime Report Comparative Data)

The Bush Administration cut $ 5.6 million in addiction treatment services to drug court participants and other adult criminal offenders in the community. Bush's cuts were expected to affect 17,000 to 18,000 non-incarcerated adults and 2,500 youths across the state. The Department of Children and Families saw an $8.5 million cut to addiction services, forcing the Department to shift funds from elsewhere. The Department of Corrections cut $3.2 million and the Department of Juvenile Justice cut $1 million from treatment programs. Alcoholism and Drug Abuse Weekly, 1/28/02.

Let me tell you about Jeb Bush.
He is the Governor Florida Law Enforcement as been waiting for.
Keep him on the job.
Bush's Department of Children and Families, has failed to protect Florida's most vulnerable children. The Administration still has not accounted for 1000 children who are in the care of DCF.
